Vasotec Product Description
Vasotec is an inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme having several effects on the circulatory system including vasoconstrictor effect, which helps to reduce high blood pressure.
Vasotec is prescribed for pediatric patients (from the first month of life), adults and elderly patients to reduce high blood pressure in:
- essential hypertension
- congestive heart failure
- left ventricular dysfunction
Vasotec dose should be selected with extreme caution for patients who are on dialysis. Such patients are prescribed with 2.5 mg per day, on dialysis days. The recommended starting dose of Vasotec is 10 to 40mg per day (at once or in two intakes).
When using Vasotec in combination with diuretic, the starting dose of antihypertensive drug is 5 mg per day. The recommended starting dose of Vasotec for children is 0.08 mg per each kg of body weight daily. Herewith, children's daily dose should not exceed 5 mg of Vasotec.
If you forget to use your usual daily dose of Vasotec, you can take it on the same day when it is needed or skip the forgotten tablet if you remember about the missed dose of this antihypertensive agent only the next day.
Vasotec does not cure high blood pressure, but only helps to control it. Due to the use of this antihypertensive drug, the lumen in the blood vessels is increased and blood flow is improved reducing high blood pressure in the coronary and pulmonary arteries. Therefore, it is important to continue to regularly take Vasotec tablets to prevent high blood pressure.
Vasotec tablets must be stored at controlled room temperature from 15°C to 25°C in original tightly closed container in order to protect this antihypertensive agent from light and moisture.
Vasotec Safety Information
When using Vasotec, cases of Quincke's edema (angioedema) characterized by such symptoms as swelling of the face and respiratory tract are reported to be noted in some patients. In the first symptoms of angioedema, the use of Vasotec should be stopped and the patient’s condition should be monitored. Severe forms of angioedema may require appropriate therapy, which will ensure airway patency.
